‘SNL’ Finds its Black, Female Cast Member

... And its Michelle, Oprah and Beyonce.

After the five years since Maya Rudolph’s departure from “Saturday Night Live” in 2007, NBC’s late-night sketch comedy program has lacked a vital branch in diversity. The branch would be the vacant slot that is a black and female cast member. At long last, the position has been filled.

Meet (or re-meet) Sasheer Zamata. She’ll be making her debut on the SNL on Jan. 18, 2014, the same night where rapper/singer Drake will host and double as musical guest. This is looking to be a big night for the series and its fans.

Back on episode five of this season, Scandal actress Kerry Washington hosted. To some controversy, by default she portrayed all black female characters, including Michelle Obama, Oprah and although off screen, Beyonce. For those wanting to see Zamata’s acting, and more importantly, comical talents, you are encouraged to watch the video below.
