Seth Meyers will Host the Emmy Awards this Year
Following in Fallon's footsteps.
Seth Meyers has been a likely candidate to host the telecast of the award show, and now it’s official. This will definitely help boost the ratings for Meyer’s late night program as “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon saw the same type of success after his hosting in 2010, nearly 18 months after replacing Conan O’Brien. Set to executive produce the Emmys is Don Mischer who has Oscar, Tony and Olympic credits under his belt.
“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at ‘SNL,’ as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on ‘SNL’ and ‘Late Night,’ makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s President of latenight and alternative programming. “Plus, with Don’s vast experience at putting these type of big productions together, we’ll be in great hands.”
Meyers hosting is something that would feel natural to the viewing audience and Meyers himself, who has a 7-year tenure hosting “The Weekend Update” on “SNL” and “Late night with Seth Meyers.” He also hosted ESPN’s Espy Awards in 2010 and 2011.
Usually, the Emmys take place in mid-September, but due to NBC’s commitment to “Sunday Night Football” the show will take place on the last Monday in August.
