A brief breakdown of Doctor Who Series 9 Episode 5

“The Girl Who Died” was certainly one the most hyped episodes in recent memory, with the promise of a guest role for Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and an explanation for why the Doctor has the face of Peter Capaldi’s character in “The Fires of Pompeii.” While both aspects are fine, “The Girl Who Died” isn’t so much groundbreaking or important as it is merely a solid episode that mixes in Who’s trademark humor with an entertaining new race of aliens and an equally entertaining group of vikings. The one real oddity is that, like the other episodes of Series 9 thus far, it’s a two-parter, and the way they decided to continue things here feels like an afterthought.
