The CW announced today that Superman himself will be introduced in the second season of Supergirl as it makes its CW debut this fall. Superman will appear in the first two episodes of the season, with casting currently underway.

Superman technically “appeared” in the first season, but only in ways that never showed him in full—from afar or when Supergirl was stunned. Now that he will be truly introduced, it opens up the option to have a mini-Justice League between the now four CW shows. CW has not commented on whether Superman will be appearing in the planned four-show crossover next season.

This isn’t the first time that there has been two different live-action interpretations of the iconic DC hero at the same time. In 2006, Superman Returns was released while Smallville was still on the air.

According to reports, Supergirl was limited from fully using Superman in the first season because WB wanted to save the character exclusively for the big screen. With this announcement, it raises questions about whether Batman will be given the same treatment, be it on Gotham or elsewhere.

Does it bother you to have two different Supermen at the same time? Could this mean that ‘Gotham’ can actually get good? Tweet us @YouNerded or leave a comment below.
